A look at history

Until the 1999/2000 season, SG Braunschweig participated in the Basketball Bundesliga. With the establishment of Basketball-Braunschweig GmbH and the acquisition of the Bundesliga license in 2000, a new era began. Main sponsor Metabox enabled the move to the modern Volkswagenhalle, but financial difficulties led to insolvency as early as 2001. The club survived thanks to local support, undergoing several name and sponsor changes—from StadtSport Braunschweig to BS Energy.

In 2006, the team rebranded as New Yorker Phantoms, gaining attention with achievements like playoff appearances. Since 2014, under the name Basketball Löwen Braunschweig, the focus shifted to nurturing young talent. NBA star Dennis Schröder became the majority owner in 2018, bringing fresh momentum. With a commitment to youth development and improved infrastructure, the club aims to compete sustainably at the top level, both athletically and financially.

Review of the previous season

The 2023/24 season for the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig started on shaky ground. Injuries and coordination challenges within the newly assembled squad led to a tough beginning. Head coach Jesús Ramírez had to quickly devise solutions to get the team back on track. Supported by a young, ambitious roster featuring rising talents such as the Tischler twins and Sananda Fru, alongside experienced captain Robin Amaize, the team’s performance steadily improved as the season progressed.

In the second half of the season, the Löwen displayed resilience and consistent growth. While narrowly missing the playoffs, they secured a respectable 10th place and left a positive impression with promising performances. Highlights included the development of young players and increased fan engagement. The club looks ahead with optimism, aiming to climb higher in the standings in the next season.
